Diabetic Feet

Diabetic foot is a complication of diabetes that typically manifests as a progressive destruction of the foot tissues. Its main visible symptoms include abnormal dryness of the skin and the appearance of calluses or bone deformities in the foot.

If you notice a loss of sensitivity to pain, abnormal temperature, increased dryness, and the appearance of cracks, calluses, and/or bone deformities in the feet, you may be suffering from diabetic foot. Things to watch for:

  • Loss of sensation or numbness in the feet,
  • Ulcers or wounds that heal slowly,
  • Redness, warmth, or swelling of the feet,
  • Pain or discomfort, especially when walking,
  • Frequent inflammatory infections in the feet,
  • Changes in the color of the skin on the feet,
  • Deformation of the foot, such as hammertoes or flat feet, often related to diabetic disorders.
